As a Jr. Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership and/or development of solutions for the world class customers. Responsibilities include development, implementation, testing and startup of technical solutions created by yourself or others, and frequent communication to management and customers of work status updates.
You will be working closely with project managers and senior engineers to leverage their technical experience and expertise in controls, instrumentation, networking and software development to deliver high-quality and high-value solutions. This position will be reporting to our Portage, Indiana office. Only applicants living within a commuting distance of this location will be considered.
You Will:
- Design and implementation of integrated electrical and control systems
- Work cooperatively with engineering, design, production and field service staff
- Responsible for aspects of project budget and schedule requirements
- Develop overall system architecture for industrial control projects
- Specify and configure various hardware components such as AC/DC drives, instrumentation, switchgear and industrial control panels
- Perform functional testing of electrical and control systems
- Design and configure PLC/SCADA networks
- Generate test procedures and forms
- Coordinate start-up activities within GGS, any contractors and owner personnel
You Have:
- BS Engineering degree
- Minimum of 1 year(s) of automation experience
- Knowledge of or experience with AC/DC motors and drives, PLCs, and HMIs
- Ability to develop PLC and HMI programs within one or more languages (A-B, Siemens, etc.)
- Solve software and data communication problems
- Participate in field start-up testing of electrical and programmed control systems, including loop checks, drive setup, installation inspection, operational readiness testing, and functional acceptance testing
Desired Skills:
- Direct experience in some or all of the following: process lines for metals, paper, and plastics. Process line auxiliary systems, hydraulic, solutions, coaters. Material handling, convey, feeding, batching, and packaging. Utility and Environmental monitoring, metering, and reporting. General industrial automation. This includes advanced mechanical and electrical experience as it relates to the industries that we serve.
- Drives and/or power converters experience preferred.
- Metals industry experience
